dainese axial boots

Racing gear is a critical aspect of rider/racer safety. Not only does it have to withstand high abrasion and significantly reduce impact forces, it has to be relatively comfortable with range of motion and weight. With many brands of suits on the market, I will explain why my personal choice is Dainese.

Dainese is an Italian based company that provides apparel for various activities, but for the purposes of this article, I am focusing on racing gear for motorcycles. Racing is inherently dangerous, but the gear has come a long way in helping to avoid major injuries. Dainese has their equipment being used and developed in the highest levels of motorcycle racing. If a crash is going to happen, especially at high speeds, I want the best odds of coming out of that with the least amount of injury possible. That means you have to invest in your gear.

The Axial boots are Dainese top of the line model when it comes to a motorcycle racing boot. The boot is used by various riders across the MotoGP paddock. The Axial boot has many features such as replaceable metal toe sliders, kevlar, lightweight design, and more. When the boots first arrived, I was impressed with just how lightweight they are. It reminds me of a mid height summertime hiking boot in terms of weight.

Whenever I get a new pair of racing boots, breaking them in always seems to be a chore. With the Dainese Axial boots, break in time is minimal and much more comfortable to wear out of the box compared to other brands. I believe it’s due to the unique design of having the boot inside the suit vs having to use leather, straps, and plastic to keep the boot tight and hold the suit inside the boot. Personally, I prefer the inner boot design. Having bigger calf muscles, I always struggle to stuff a leather suit into a boot, still be comfortable, and not sweat profusely inside the boot. The Axial boot solves all of these problems for me. Being comfortable means you’re less distracted on the bike and keeps your focus on the racing.

After two seasons of using the Axial boots, I have not had any issues with them. The grip on the bottom of the soles keeps my feet planted on the footpegs. I don’t see any signs of excessive wear even on the velcro attachment parts. Since my body runs warm, I don’t keep my gear on all-day especially if there’s more than hour in between races/sessions. Therefore; I am frequently using the velcro to put on/take off the boots. They barely look used and hold their position every session.

In summary, the Axial boots are top notch. Dainese is always further developing their products, and racers/riders benefit from it. The condition of the boots after two seasons is a worthy investment, and I expect them to last all through their third season as well. This article was written independently, meaning Dainese did not provide any influence or exchange of goods for this article.
